Minimum wage rises to EUR 10.45 per hour from 2022

According to a recommendation of the minimum wage commission, the statutory minimum wage is to be gradually increased to EUR 10.45.

The minimum wage commission took its adjustment decision on June 30, 2020 and presented its report. According to the regular report, it has been the third report since the introduction of the general statutory minimum wage in Germany in January 2015. This is currently 9.35 EUR gross per hour . The Commission recommends an increase in the minimum wage in several steps to € 10.45 on July 1, 2022.

The increase steps in detail

  • on January 1, 2021 : 9.50 EUR
  • on July 1, 2021 : 9.60 EUR
  • on January 1, 2022 : 9.82 EUR
  • on July 1, 2022 : 10.45 EUR .

The minimum wage commission advises every two years about adapting the minimum wage. It checks the amount suitable for contributing to an appropriate minimum protection of the employee, enabling fair and functioning competitive conditions and not endangering employment. It is based on collective bargaining.

However, the federal government must still implement the future amount of the minimum wage by regulation. It usually depends on the commission's proposal.

The minimum wage computer of the Federal Ministry of Labor helps to find out whether and to what extent a salary corresponds to the minimum wage, lies above or below and how high the hourly wage is.

Except of the adaptation

The statutory minimum wage still does not to:

  • Young people under the age of 18 without completed vocational training.

However, the correct name for this atmosphere for trainees is "minimum training allowance" and not to be confused with the legal minimum wage.
