Failure protection-friendly ventilation in times of corona pandemic

According to current findings, the Sars-Cov-2 virus is primarily to be transferred to a respiratory basis by droplets and aerosols. In addition to the distance requirement and the general contact restrictions, the interior hygiene must be given special attention in infection protection.

The " aha" formula for distance, hygiene and everyday masks must now be supplemented by an " L " for ventilation.

In cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Health, the Robert Koch Institute, the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Occupational Medicine (BAUA), the Federal Government has now decided on the recommendations for measures . These recommendations represent an orientation aid in the design of ventilation concepts. However, they are not legally binding. The ventilation of building streams, in which several people are not only in the short term, is to be improved in particular by increasing air change and external air supply or a correspondingly filtered air in such a way that infection risks are largely minimized.

In detail:

Intensive and professional ventilation

Basic formula: A meeting room should generally be done every 20 minutes for

  • 3 minutes in winter,
  • 5 minutes in spring/autumn, and
  • 10 minutes in the summer

ventilated .

The Federal Environment Agency also recommends that a sneezing cough or the like in addition to ventilate. The same standards should also be used in other areas with comparable use (public institutions, shops, restaurants).

Examination of all room air -technical systems

Employers are kept to immediately check all room air-technical systems in buildings for proper functionality, and to carry out the necessary repair and maintenance work or to work on the fact that the respective operator carries out these tasks.

Hygiene inspections according to VDI 6022 , but also energetic inspections according to DIN Spec 15240 considered.

Optimization of the air conditioning systems

The operating parameters of room air -technical systems in buildings must be optimized immediately:

  • Permanent operation or extension of the operating times of the room air -technical systems before and after the actual usage period.
  • Less circulating air, more fresh air: Avoiding or reducing circulation operation and setting the room air -technical system to the highest possible air change rate by external air.

Upgrading of room air -technical systems

A upgrading of room air-technical systems that cannot be operated 100 % with fresh air through additional effective and efficient possibilities of reducing air-borne viruses, especially SARS-COV-2, must be checked and implemented where necessary. The necessity results, especially in the case of rooms that are not only briefly occupied, in which there can otherwise be an enrichment of virus -contaminated aerosols. If an upgrading is not possible, additional measures must be provided, e.g. free ventilation, reduction in space occupancy, attachment of separations, wearing mouth-nose coverage.

In the case of room air -technical systems with revocary operation, a filter upgrade should be carried out, for example, e.g. by replacing dust filters of class F7 with filters of the ISO EPM1 classes (formerly F8) or better ISO EPM1 80% (formerly F9) if the system offers the corresponding technical requirements. If technically possible, the upgrade with high -performance floating fabric filters (HEPA - H 13 or H 14) is generally preferred.

The responsible occupational safety and infection protection authorities as well as ordinance and construction authorities of the federal states, as well as the supervisory services of the accident insurance institutions are asked to strengthen advice, supervision and enforcement based on the existing legal situation.

Basic regulations are Section 3a (1) ArbstättV (violation is reinforced) in conjunction with Appendix ArbstätTV No. 3.6 "Ventilation" . According to No. 6.6 of the concretizing ASR 3.6. According to the manufacturer, “ventilation” must be checked and wait regularly according to the manufacturer. Requirements for maintenance and maintenance of mobile devices used in connection with ventilation also result from Section 10 (1) of the Operating Safety Ordinance , after the corresponding requirements of the manufacturers, which are usually from the operating instructions, must be taken into account.

Violations of the existing legal provisions (e.g. measures for maintenance according to the workplace regulation) in the area of ventilation of building streams are to be consistently punished. They are intelligent and can result in prohibiting the use of the affected rooms.

CO 2 monitoring

If a high occupancy density in building streams cannot be avoided, the Federal Government also recommends using CO 2 measuring devices, especially for windows, which is ventilated with windows, so that necessary ventilation measures can be recognized and initiated in good time. Alternatively, air filter systems can be used according to the ambient conditions.
